After Impacted Teeth
When your tooth is impacted, it means that it is lodged in the supporting bone. This usually occurs when there is not enough room for it to grow naturally into place in the dental arch.
It is normal to experience mild discomfort and swelling after your impacted tooth has been surgically removed. You can alleviate swelling and pain using a cold compress or icepack. Our dentists may also prescribe pain medication, which you should use as directed.
Treat the surgical site as you would an extracted tooth, and maintain a soft diet for a few days until the site heals.

After Implant Surgery
After your implant placement surgery, you should take it easy for 48-72 hours. We recommend that you:
- Stay well-hydrated
- Apply an icepack to your face at 20-minute intervals for 2 days following your surgery
- If you received implants in your upper jaw, do not blow your nose for 2 weeks
- Do not chew directly onto the bone graft
- Maintain a soft diet for a couple of days following your procedure
- Take all prescribed medications as directed
You may experience slight bleeding for two days following surgery. An increase in temperature of 1-2 degrees is also normal and is no cause for concern. Please follow all post-operative instructions provided to minimize your risk of infection and complications after your implant surgery.

After Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure, and it will require some post-operative care to reduce the likelihood of infection or other complications.
After your procedure, the dentist will place a gauze pad over the extraction site. This pad should be left in place for at least 45 minutes before being discarded.
After your treatment:
- Do not drink from a straw or rinse your mouth
- Limit your activities – you should rest and keep your head elevated
- Take pain medications as directed

Multiple Tooth Extractions
Removing one or two teeth is fairly simple.; however, extracting multiple teeth requires our dentists to shape your jawbone in preparation for a denture. After you have had multiple teeth extracted, you may experience the following:
- Maximum swelling within the mouth and possible around the eyes.
- The area around your eyes may also become discolored. You can relieve this effect by using warm compresses.
- Muscle soreness, leading to a sore throat.
- Your mouth may become dry and cracked.
Most patients who undergo multiple tooth extractions have a follow-up appointment with your dentist within 48 hours to discuss your post-surgery symptoms and make sure that you are healing properly. Please follow all instructions provided by our dental professionals as closely as possible.
